A twiggy, upright, spreading, deciduous shrub native to Europe, with narrowly ovate leaves which are dark green in summer turning yellow-green to reddish-purple in autumn. Flowers in May/June and although the yellow-green flowers are inconspicuous, they are nectar rich so very attractive to pollinating insects, great for a bee friendly garden. Flowers are following in the autumn by 4-lobed red fruits which split to reveal orange seeds.

These deciduous and evergreen trees will thrive in almost any soil including chalk as long as it's well-drained. Plant in full sun or partial shade.

Height and Spread (after 10 years): 2.5m x 2.5m
